a biblical aphorism I heard yesterday in a webinar

Yesterday in a Zoom presentation that was a festschrift or celebration for the distinguished law professor Bill Casto of Texas Tech Law School, in a session titled "The Work of a Working Historian:  Historical Methods and Sources," moderated by Bryan Camp, I heard one speaker, John Gordan, describe the line of case law of the SCOTX regarding whether a corporate officer is personally liable for torts he or she commits on behalf of the corporation. He showed clearly that the court's decisions were back and forth and up and down and zigging and zagging and generally confused and inconsistent, and he nailed it with this biblical aphorism:

"For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare him[ or her]self to the battle?" (I Corinthians 14:8, KJV)
