Josiah Daniel to Gov. Greg Abbott, re his failure to proclaim Black History Month for this year, 2024 -- updated February 10th because he sent me a counterpart of his 2024 proclamation

On February 3, 2024, I mailed this letter to Gov. Greg Abbott:

"Governor Greg Abbott                                                    February 3, 2024

P.O. Box 12428

Austin, Texas 78711-2428

Dear Greg,

February is Black History Month. Last year you proclaimed the month as such. See Governor Abbott Proclaims February 2023 As Black History Month In Texas, https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/ governor-abbott-proclaims-february-2023-as-black-history-month-in-texas.

But now, here in 2024, we are several days into February, and you have not signed a similar proclamation.

--> Please do so at this time.

As you stated in last year’s proclamation: “Black Americans have shaped virtually every aspect of public life, and their contributions have helped build the nation we know and love. . . .” Id

Nothing has changed in this regard since you issued the proclamation one year ago. If it is that political groups are attempting to coerce you to ignore Black History Month, disregard that pressure and just go ahead to do the right thing: reissue your proclamation from last year.

--> This is a NONPOLITICAL matter for the man who is the Chief Executive of all of our state and ALL of its people including its AFRICAN AMERICANS!

Sincerely,

/s/

Josiah M. Daniel, III"

                                                                    ---update---

Today, Febuary 10th, I received by U.S. Mail from Gov. Abbott a beribboned counterpart of his Proclamation dated January 4, 2024, proclaiming Black History Month for February 2024:

I acknowledge my mistake and apologize. Greg, you HAD in fact issued a proclamation on January 4th.

But I'm puzzled. I had searched his gubernatorial website and did not find this January 4th proclamation. I just searched again, and the January 4th document does not appear on the chronological list of all of Greg's proclamations:

---2d update---

I thank Greg for doing so before the month had expired: On February ____, he finally posted his January 4th proclamation of Black History Month on his official gubernatorial website bearing a new date of February 1st:
