Police officers should have a statutory duty to intervene to prevent future George Floyd-type killings

Two months ago, Professor Zachary Kaufman of University of the Houston Law Center, published this op-ed in the Dallas Morning News:

Zachary D. Kaufman, Opinion, Policing the Police: Congress and States Should Enact Duty to Intervene Laws, DALLAS MORNING NEWS (Mar. 2, 2023), available at www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2023/03/02/policing-the-police-congress-and-states-should-enact-duty-to-intervene-laws/.

I  recommend it and urge everyone to read it. Detailed statutes such as here proposed by Professor Kaufman, as and when enacted, not only federally but in all the states, would go a long, long way to prevent future murders of innocent black men such as George Floyd and many others of recent times by police officers.
