Planting peas

This is simply to say I hope all my friends are well and staying safe in this time of the virus. Now it is the time to focus on and to take every precaution. Okay, I will tell a story: On my first day in Garrison Hall, the home of the History Department of The University of Texas at Austin, on the first day of the autumn semester of 1973, in a graduate seminar titled "U.S. Social History," the professor, Robert C. Cotner, told us dozen or so students about his years studying for and earning history degrees during some tough days in the Great Depression. He asked us: "Do you know what you can plant to put food on the table the fastest for your family?" The answer was: "Peas!" I believe my family and I will have enough food to get through this time of the virus. But as a tribute to Professor Cotner, and remembering his advice, before the "stay home" orders were issued, I went out and bought the seeds, and during the past two weeks I have been planting peas [small quantities, not enough for more than a side dish at a few meals, but planting them nonetheless].
Stay well, everybody. Josiah
